Beyond the MBA hype

If you are planning to do an MBA, doing one or has done it; whether India or Abroad, whether those top B Schools or not – this is a book that will entertain you! Each page is a delight.

Author Sameer Kamat, founder of MBA Crystal ball and a regular columnist at firstpost; paints a clear picture about the MBA thingy, esp for Indian students going (or planning to go) for an MBA abroad. The author is an MBA from University of Cambridge with several years of IT and Management experience. The book aims to assist you right from ‘preparation’ to ‘how to achieve your dream B School’ to ‘what to explect in a typical International B School classroom’ to ‘what happens after all that’.

Special mention: Sameer illustrates clearly what they don’t teach you in those fancy classrooms! So just in case you are starting your MBA in near future or going through one, you should know the things what you will not come across.

A must read by Indian/IT/Male (IIM), as the author puts it with witty humor and cautions about the not-so-greener side of MBA and after effects. Though, as the title suggests, it elaborates why MBA is a hype and why one should re-think about the decision to do an MBA; it also talks about how to make the best out of it. It has chapters on all aspects like application process, networking, skill gap, career change etc.

The book starts with a story, about two friends just out of engineering college; one decides to go for an MBA abraod and the other plans to work for a few years before taking any decision. Its interesting to see how their stories turn out with time. The MBA “Industry” has now started bothering me after reading this book.
