Gmail to show better ads

Did you see this image over your inbox lately?

Just as priority inbox tells us about our important emails, and keeps us away from spam. Google now promises to display to its users, more relevant and fewer ads; and will keep us away from unwanted ones. Sounds good!

Better ads in Gmail

Look at the next image. Honestly speaking, this is not an ad I would ever click on. With the technology available that can highly customize ads, what’s the point in showing the ads that are not useful, they are just lying there.

If you’ve been using Gmail for a while, you may have noticed the same. However, Gmail is now trying to avoid such ads and make the ones you see, much more useful.

Gmail Better ads – How?

Using some of the same signals that help predict which messages are likely to be important to you, Gmail will better predict which ads may be useful to you. For example, if you’ve recently received a lot of messages about photography or cameras, a deal from a local camera store might be interesting. On the other hand if you’ve reported some messages as spam, you probably don’t want to see that deal.

Well, I think this won’t happen without having Google crawler run through our inbox and emails. That sounds fishy; Gmail’s policy says that they will not share your information with advertisers (without your permission).

On the other hand they took our permission automatically by creating one checked radio button in settings page. If you don’t want Gmail to make these changes to your Gmail account, you may go ahead and uncheck it.

I don’t know how is Google going to do it. Do you know? Share with us

Lets checkout this cute girl from Google who is telling us about more relevant and useful ads.
