Internet giant Yahoo! plans to host content in six regional languages, besides Hindi and English, by next year.

Yahoo! India managing director Arun Tadanki said on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit that they are looking for partners. By next year, they plan to have content in up to six regional languages. At present, Yahoo! India has a partnership with publishing house Dainik Jagran for offering content in Hindi.

“We see huge opportunity in regional language content. Our Hindi news traffic had taken over the traffic we see for news in English,” he added. There are about 50 million Internet users in India, which is likely to go up to 240 million in the next 5-year. Tadanki said 73% of all Indian Internet users have access to Yahoo!, so regional content is very important to the company.

Google recently announced its ads in different Indian languages. Did Yahoo! realize the potential of Indian languages over the internet or is it yet another move copying Google.
