Nikhil Goyal, an MBA student from 2013 batch of BITS-Pilani, writes about how Entrepreneuship is more than just a designation, it a way of life. Entrepreneur is a person who pioneers change. He can see opportunity in a problem. To define entrepreneurship, it is a process through which individuals identify opportunities, allocate resources, and create value. Entrepreneurs don’t wait for the opportunity to come instead they make their own opportunity. Innovation is a breakthrough process to enhance a measureable value. While entrepreneurship can play an important role in the socio-economic growth of a nation, innovation can be a factor for welfare and improved standard of living. According to Peter F. Drucker, the father of modern management, “innovation is a specific tool of entrepreneurs.” Though the

I am fascinated by the Appreciative Inquiry concept, not only because it sounds cool, but I have seen it working (unlike many other business strategies) in real business scenarios. I am afraid, B Schools often miss out on such business strategies which are very practical to implement. It wasn’t taught to me while I was in my management strategy class, however, over conversations with friends, I realized this can work wonders. Here is a small story! Back in the 1980s there was a low budget hotel, Omni Hotel. A hotel known for their pathetic service and no customer used to visit them, once experienced. The staff fought terribely with each other and service was awful, the cleaners weren’t motivated to clean the hotel regularly. Finally, the new manager invited

We are glad we have Avinash Maurya to share with us about his venture Maarewa. More than any of our interview to date, this discussion brings to life the things that people can appreciate and relate to easily. Someone said, Entrepreneurship isn’t a designation-its a way of life. We hope you find this interview as inspiring as we do. Avinash (and maa rewa) celebrated Maha Shivratri this year in Varanasi. He answered our questions during the journey and shared with us some snaps he clicked. You will find them as he answers! Satyam: Hi Avinash and welcome. We have been hearing about MaaRewa lately. What is it about? Avinash: Hey, Satyam! Thanks for having me. Yes, I’m really excited about the prospects of maa rewa. The aim of maa rewa is

As the media likes to call it India’s answer to Amazon.com, Flipkart is India’s first Indian Online venture valued a billion dollars. While much is said about India being a service oriented, rather than product oriented country, several e-commerce startups have emerged over the last couple of years to prove that India can also nurture Internet companies which can compete with companies in the Silicon Valley. One such startup is Flipkart.com (Shall we call it a startup?) Founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal (not related to each other) in Oct 2007, flipkart is today a book lovers’ paradise. The two IIT graduates who had Amazon experience wanted to start a good online book selling store for the country. With expected revenues of Rs. 75 Crores

If you are a foodie, then you must worship Zomato. (Burrrp…ahh – sorry; well the perils of post lunch blogging!!!) I have always been writing about great businesses around and it is Zomato this time. How do I know zomato? It was @Ayojak’s clients meeting in Pune when the founder Mr. Santosh Panda came down to India. This was when I, along with @socialsunil, were trying to locate a venue for the same. On a busy yet beautiful F.C. Road in Pune, we happen to enter a restaurant named, “By the way”. We finalized the venue and things fell in place. While leaving after the party, your’s truly observed a small pamphlet on the table that said, ‘review us on ZOMATO’. Whats cool about Zomato? Its name! After

Robert Indiana’s iconic midtown sculpture has become a celebrated symbol of the Pop Art movement and an amazing marketing pyramid in New York. This design was initially made as a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art, but then it was installed as a 12-foot steel sculpture in 1971. ‘Love’ has been an amazing word used in the world of marketing because it touches all of us irrespective of our differences. And Yes, Marketing brings revenues and profits too. As a postage stamp, the LOVE design (with a tilted ‘O’) has earned more than $25 million for the U.S. Postal Service.Back home in India a group of young enthusiastic IITians from Chennai used the same word for their website to connect with the masses.
